Installation view, Patient Info, ChicagoCloser is a video collection that indexes encounters between a body and the sky. Screen-captured on a phone while recording out the window of an airplane, these videos contain traces of something both simulated and embodied, impossibly distant and entirely handheld. Focus shifts between the glass of the window and the sky beyond it while a sun-shaped icon dances across the sky-image, a stand-in for the actual sun and evidence of the observer’s hand that touches but isn’t seen on screen. Literally, the sun icon indicates the trajectory of an improvised performance as a single finger sets and resets the phone camera’s focal point by touching the desired location in the image.
